This project was for my IT course in 6th form, the project was to build a point and click game/application for Windows using visual basic.
This was a very difficult task because none of us had previous experience coding in Visual basic and we had to research methods of getting visual basic to perform the tasks we wanted it to perform more or less by ourselves and sharing methods we had learnt that worked for our application.
I made a shoot the duck type game, this basically involved a pigeon image that would randomly move around a dedicated area and the objective was to click the pigeon and avoid the platypus. The game wasn't really designed to be in a context the task was more about being able to do it and how we did it, and dealt with things not going to plan or simply not understanding, as well as what steps we took to resolve these issues and completing the coding, visuals & testing within a time frame.
We later did some basic prototypes for an application designed for iPad to educate and entertain children from the ages of 4-6, I made a game that focused on vocabulary by matching the words with images and correctly placing letters in words. Sadly i have no files from the development of the prototypes nor do i have the prototypes, but this also focused on how we came to solutions and designing with a context.

I am Thobi [Thobeka] Kellett a student studying Digital media at the University of West England. Before this i studied at Kingsbridge Community College studying I.T, Media Studies & Philosophy & Ethics as my core subjects. My e-mail address is below which can be used to enquire about any specific information
If you click the link to the left you will see three examples of previous written work i did for AS and A2 media studies that cover three separate areas:
The first is a microfeature analysis of the film 7 pounds, the analysis focuses on how the use of shots, lighting, acting & sound, as well as other micro features, adds to define the mood and meaning of a given scene and how they play a vital role when used correctly with one another.
The second is an essay about the audience experience, the essay discusses how the mediums that we use to view media changes how we view and use media and the information that come with it and how this further affect how we live and our society, as well as how the developments so far have changed us and our relationship with information.
The third project was a piece for my A2 project that is discussing our view of criminals and crime and how much of that is due to mediation and a need for a representation of a bad guy, rather than these representations necessarily being based on any truth.
These written projects are to try and show a basic understanding of platforms, audience & how we use media and how it is used to influence society.
